Description
Train on and become proficient in conducting a variety of structural pest control and agricultural inspections and presentations administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to contribute to the enforcement of structural pest control and agricultural laws and regulations for consumer protection in the State of Texas. Work under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Train on and become proficient in accurately conducting accurate structural pest control and agricultural inspections administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), which may include some or all of the following areas:  monitor compliance with the Texas Right-to-Know Law and Federal Worker Protection Standards, which involves providing education to agricultural producers, farm laborers, schools, medical and other emergency staff regarding the effects of and treatment for improper pesticide use;  conduct compliance inspections of pesticide dealers’ records of pesticide distribution;  conduct compliance inspections of private applicator’s pesticide use records and commercial/noncommercial (C/NC) pesticide use records;  conduct Environmental Protection Agency producer establishment inspections and other federal inspections as needed;  conduct pesticide use observations;  investigate complaints involving allegations of noncompliance with the Agriculture and Occupations Code and their respective rules. Involves interviewing witnesses, collecting and submitting samples, taking photographs, inspecting various structures, sites, and environs to assess plant disease, insects, and pesticide use and/or effects;  complete case preparations and testify at hearings for violations of pesticide or structural pest control laws;  participate in conducting inspections of licensed applicators for the proper use of M-44 sodium cyanide devices and compound 1080 livestock protection collars, and may conduct training on their proper use and/or alternative methods of use;  conduct compliance inspections of pesticide dealer/marketplace facilities;  inspect a variety of records for structural pest control commercial and noncommercial businesses;  inspect a variety of records for school districts to ensure compliance with regulations regarding Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs for schools;  inspect pesticide storage on vehicles and at facilities such as school districts, commercial and noncommercial businesses;  issue stop use, stop distribution and removal order (SUSDROs) for pesticides determined to be in violation;  collect samples of pesticides and pesticide residues for official analysis; and  conduct experimental use permit and section 18 inspections. 2. Complete accurate, detailed reports related to inspections, complete travel vouchers and mileage reports; complete various weekly and end-of-month reports. 3. Conduct thorough inspections and complete all related reports with data integrity and properly document violations. 4. Coordinate and ensure that Regional Directors and Agriculture and regional management staff are kept informed of all issues related to the inspections. 5. Respond to/investigate consumer questions or complaints by personal visits, via telephone or email correspondence. 6. Maintain state vehicles and other state property according to agency guidelines. 7. Represent the agency in a positive manner when dealing with constituents. 8. Train on and become proficient/be proficient in the use of Performing Inspections, Enforcement and Recruitment (PIER), Bringing Resource Integration and Data Together for Greater Efficiency (BRIDGE) and business intelligence reports. 9. Complete case preparations and testify at hearings on violations of pesticide laws. 10. Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance. 11. Follow all TDA safety guidelines/procedures and ethics requirements. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 12. Perform other duties related to educating the constituency and representing the agency, such as speaking to various civic/professional/educational groups. 13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS (The application must specifically state how each of the following qualifications are met): - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (a high school diploma and two years of full-time work experience related to the essential duties may substitute for a degree); - Must reside in Bastrop County*; - Valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record; - Required to travel up to 50% of the work period;
