- Description
- The Department of Entomology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is pleased to announce the recruitment for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level (9-month) in Precision Pest Ecology/Field Crops Entomology with strengths in novel approaches to integrated insect pest management within a broader agroecological context, integrating climate change, water quality, ecosystem services, and pests and agronomic management. Candidates with research interests and experience on applied research that emphasizes novel plant protection strategies drawn from application of modern geospatial techniques from field- to landscape-scales to improve understanding of pest ecology in forage and row crop agroecosystems are particularly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will use data-driven techniques and approaches that integrate field, climate/weather and landscape data toward the development of “precision” pest management within an agroecology context. The position carries a commitment to the three important functions of resident instruction, research, and outreach, as well as professional and university service as appropriate to the faculty rank. This position will help maintain strong interactions among the basic and applied research missions of the Entomology Department, as well as complement existing programs in the Division of Extension and other College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) Departments. A vital aspect of this integrated and interdisciplinary position is the extension (outreach) component, and it is imperative that relevant and applicable information generated from both basic and applied research be delivered to respective constituents in a timely manner. The candidate is expected to contribute to both undergraduate and graduate instruction with responsibility for teaching an introductory course in the emerging Agricultural Ecosystems undergraduate major. All of our faculty contribute to our graduate seminar series and mentor undergraduate students in independent studies, as well as train graduate students and post-doctoral scientists. Application Procedures: Apply online at "Jobs at UW" (http://jobs.wisc.edu) under job number 242147 or follow this link: https://go.wisc.edu/21nsg1 and begin the process by clicking "Apply Now". Applications must be received through UW-Madison's online application system. Applications are accepted through December 5, 2021. Applicants should upload the following materials as a single PDF document: 1. Cover letter 2. Curriculum vitae 3. Names and contact information of three potential letter-writers 4. Two-page statement of research interests and future research plans, highlighting your fit to this position and how you would complement the departmental expertise 5. Two-page statement of extension philosophy, approach and experiences 6. One-page statement on how your scholarship, teaching, and mentoring align with the commitment of the Department of Entomology to foster an inclusive and diverse academic community 7. One PDF document demonstrating a representative sample of published papers (3 max) We advise that applicants notify potential letter-writers in advance that letters will be required to the department by January 10, 2022, if the candidate is advanced to the next round of screening. Applicants can find relevant information about the Dept. of Entomology at http://www.entomology.wisc.edu, and interested individuals are welcome to contact Associate Professor Christelle Guédot (guedot@wisc.edu) to discuss this opportunity.
