- Description
- I am pleased to announce that we are now soliciting applications for the Spring 2020 school semester. We will have positions available in: Administration - Research Project (1 position) Community Enhancement – Social Media (1 position) Criminal Investigations (4 positions - 2 on MWF and 2 on T and T) Patrol Operations (1 position) Recruiting and Training (1 position) The on-line application deadline to apply is October 6th at 11:59pm. Applications received after October 6th will not be considered. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING THREE PIECES OF ADVICE REGARDING THESE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: First - All of our internships must be part of their academic curriculum and therefore they must be receiving some academic credit for its successful completion. Past experience has shown us that students “just wanting to do an internship” typically are not as focused and there is no incentive for them to keep up their part of the bargain. This requirement is written in bold and underlined in two places on the Police Department internship position announcement, but we still get several applications each semester from those who check “NO” to the question “Will you be seeking academic credit for this internship.” Second – Filling out the application completely is very important. We get many more applications than we have positions to fill (83 applications received for the Spring Semester,) and often good students are passed over due to a poor initial application. The information boxes on the application are there for a reason, and when they skip them, it doesn’t help our “first impression” of their potential work product. Third – This is their job. If they are taking 15 other hours of classes, working two part-time jobs, and are members of a half dozen organizations on campus, they will not have the time needed to successfully complete this internship. We tell them in our interviews that “academics has to come first, but this ‘job’ has to come next.” Lately, we have experienced a couple of interns who have piled too much on their plate, and that is not good for any of us.
