- The positions are in the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, Office of Pesticide Programs, Registration Division, Invertebrate & Vertebrate Branch 1. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. About OCSPP: https://www.epa.gov/aboutepa/about-office-chemical-safety-and-pollution-prevention-ocspp. Responsibilities You will: Analyze and evaluate entomological efficacy data and pesticide based studies to write scientific reviews and make recommendations for regulatory reviews. Perform technical and administrative duties to support pesticide regulatory programs. Prepare and process pesticide notices and rules for publication in the Federal Register. Assist in reviewing cases for the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance to determine compliance and/or violations and product misuse. When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. One or more positions may be filled.

- Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. citizen. If you are selected, a pre-employment background check is required. You must submit a resume and required documents--see How to Apply section. You may be required to travel less than 25% of each month. This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation. All conditions of the pre-employment security process must be met before an official letter of employment can be issued with a report for duty date. If you are selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period. If you are selected, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure form within 30 days of your first day of employment and annually thereafter. The current duty station for this position is Arlington, VA. There are plans for this position to permanently move to a new duty station, Washington, DC. Anyone selected for this position will be expected to start work or move to the Washington, DC office location when requested. Qualifications In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below: To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as evaluating entomological efficacy data and/or pesticide-based studies related to insects; or resolving problems related to the registration of pesticides. To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as evaluating entomological efficacy data and/or pesticide-based studies related to insects; and managing and resolving problems related to the registration of pesticides. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of the environmental effects of public health pesticides, structural pesticides, and/or urban pest products usage; 2) Skill in conducting entomological data analyses and evaluations; 3) Skill in written communication; 4) Knowledge of the regulatory decision making process and precedents; 5) Ability to evaluate scientific assessments to inform regulatory decisions; 6) Skill in oral communication; 7) Knowledge of entomology principals including pest management. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position. A bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.
