- The Alaka’ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Entomology Laboratory Specialist to provide support services to a customer in South Korea - Camp Humphreys. DUTIES INCLUDE : Conduct arthropod- and rodent-borne disease surveillance. Provide subject matter expertise in the entomology laboratory curating and processing arthropods for rearing, identification, and other related entomological skills. Provide subject matter expertise in the area of taxonomic experience for identification of Culicoides spp. (biting gnats). Common taxonomic techniques include through wing patterns, genitalia, and DNA bar-coding. Support in planning and evaluating entomology studies and outcomes. Support in developing and conducting training, knowledge and resources to address disease risk. Support in preparation and participation at entomology based conferences, meetings, special boards, committees, and working groups. Advise on disease risk and prevention and medical entomology to reduce the possibility of widespread deleterious effect on human health and conducting entomological studies to include research and surveillance. Perform research on vector borne disease outbreaks. Prepare proposals for accomplishing the work. Develops portions of technical publications. Perform molecular analysis and sequencing of arthropod samples.
- Qualifications
- REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum three (3) years (full-time) experience in working in an entomology laboratory curating and processing arthropods for rearing, identification, and other related entomological skills. Minimum of three (3) years (full-time) taxonomic experience for identification of Culicoides spp. (biting gnats). Must be able to work independently or with others. DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer programs (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, and statistics software programs) and have the capacity to learn specialized computer programs is desired. REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: Master's degree (or higher) in entomology, biology or physical sciences that includes semester hours in entomology. A combination of education and experience can be substituted as long as courses are equivalent to a major that included course work in entomology plus appropriate experience or additional education. CITIZENSHIP: Must be a US Citizen.
