- The University of Arizona Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in Entomology and Insect Science is seeking a prospective MS student interested in turfgrass entomology, to join a multi-faceted project with FIELD and LAB components and opportunities to work with entomologists, turfgrass scientists, and professional turf managers. The student will gain firsthand experience in applying research results from the field and laboratory that enable making turfgrass pest management decisions. The project will involve: • Working on Arizona’s beautiful golf courses located in Phoenix and Tucson. • Using a network of innovative light traps to monitor turf pest activity, predominantly beetles. • Collecting and analyzing data from different locations to determine population fluctuations. • Communicating findings to partnering golf courses to implement their IPM program. • Identifying collected beetles using visual taxonomic diagnostic keys and molecular techniques. • Contributing to field testing of new insecticide formulations in turf.
