Description
Graduate position in hedgehog aphid biology A research assistantship for a MS student is available at the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at Oklahoma State University beginning January 2021. Research will focus on the hedgehog grain aphid, Sipha maydis, a new invasive insect pest that attacks sorghum. Questions will include developing life history information and identifying potential host plant resistance to the aphid feeding damage. Research will be conducted in association with the USDA ARS laboratory in Stillwater Oklahoma and thus, U.S. citizenship is required. The project will involve lab rearing of the aphid and greenhouse and lab studies. A strong research background as an undergraduate or as a technician is desired and student should be interested in plant-insect interactions, plant protection, and integrated pest management. The position comes with 12-month stipend, tuition waiver, and health benefits. The hedgehog aphid is a new pest with virtually nothing known about it… this is going to be a fun project.
Qualifications
