Description
Perform routine consultative and technical assistance work for the Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) Consumer Service Protection division. Work involves assisting with research, technical reviews and quality assurance work implementing efficient procedures and processes which contribute to efficient pesticide product registration and effective product registrant customer support. Provide technical assistance to program staff and the general public. Work under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Review and process Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) Section 3 registration of pesticide products registered in Texas. 2. Conduct technical review of product labels for required label components, safety and accuracy of information compared to Environmental Protection Agency-approved label. 3. Assist with the maintenance of Accepted Labels State Tracking and Repository (ALSTAR) label repository, including the acceptance of labels, training of pesticide registration staff, etc. 4. Assist with revising and maintaining procedures in pesticide product registration in TDA in accordance with federal and state laws and requirements including Section 3 and special registrations. 5. Assure product certification requirements are met by the registrants, using the Bringing Resource Integration and Data Together for Greater Efficiency (BRIDGE) and respond to applicant’s requests for information on resolving issues that will allow registration applications to be approved and processed. 6. Communicate with licensing staff on problems encountered in completing all aspects of pesticide registration activities. 7. Review renewal applications for pesticide registration when changes occur to the initial application, as needed. 8. Prepare and provide recommendations to the ACP staff on modifications to existing forms or procedures. 9. Assist with analysis of product registration status as needed and develop reports and adopt necessary actions to rectify any pending work. 10. Act as a custodian of all product files and labels; provide enforcement staff and pesticide inspectors in the field with copies needed for incident investigations. 11. Communicate with TDA field offices, ACP staff, other state and federal agencies and industry about registration concerns and solutions. 12. Provide information on pesticides to the public through telephone calls, correspondence and consultation, as required. 13. Participate in meetings related to various aspects of pesticide registration. 14. Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance. 15. Follow all TDA safety guidelines/procedures and ethics requirements. NON-ESSENTIAL: 16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in agriculture, biology, chemistry, agronomy, entomology, plant pathology or related field (one year of work experience related to the essential duties may substitute for one year of college); Minimum one year experience providing technical assistance in agriculture or environmental laws, rules and regulations; Required to travel up to 5% of the work period.
