Ph.D Student Wanted – position using RNAi and other methods to manage biting midges — Kansas State

Agency
Kansas State University
Location
Manhattan, Kansas
Job Category
Full Time Positions, Post Doctoral Appointments
Description
Dr. Kristopher Silver and Dr. Lee Cohnstaedt are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student to begin work in their laboratories as early as the Spring of 2019. The successful applicant will learn a variety of molecular, biochemical, cell culture, and insect rearing and bioassay techniques while investigating molecular targets for controlling Culicoide insects (biting midges) in larval habitats. Results from these experiments will aid in the development of new tools for limiting the ability of these pests to survive and vector human and animal diseases. Individuals interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Entomology in Dr. Silver’s and Dr. Cohnstaedt’s labs should send an email to ksilver@ksu.edu with a statement outlining his or her research interests, an up to date CV, unofficial transcripts for previous undergraduate/graduate education, and contact information for up to three references. A successful application will not only require acceptance of the student into Dr. Silver’s and Dr. Cohnstaedt’s labs, but also successful application to the Graduate School at Kansas State University.
