- Description
- We also seek a broadly trained botanist to fill an opening created by retirement. Candidates from any sub-discipline of the plant sciences are encouraged to apply. The teaching assignment for this position is flexible, but ability to teach courses in plant physiology, applied plant science, ethnobiology and/or genetics would be especially desirable. Other teaching opportunities include introductory biology, a writing seminar for first-year students, or an offering in the candidate’s specialty. Applications should be submitted here. Questions regarding this position may be directed to the chair of the search committee, Dr. Joe Pollard, at joe.pollard@furman.edu. The area of research specialization for both positions is flexible, but should complement existing strengths in the Biology Department. Biologists with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate research and whose work integrates views from multiple areas of biology and other science disciplines are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek faculty members with diverse perspectives who will foster innovation in our curriculum and provide a rich and varied educational experience for our students. Submit PDF versions of curriculum vitae; a statement describing how your teaching, scholarship, mentoring and/or service contributes to a liberal arts and sciences college and community committed to diversity as one of its core values; a statement of teaching credentials and philosophy; a statement of research interests and future research priorities; an initial plan for research with undergraduates; all transcripts; and names and contact details for three references. Review of applications begins October 15, 2018 and continues until the positions are filled.
- Qualifications
- Candidates must have their PhD (by June 2019) and show evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to establishing a productive research program that leads to publication with undergraduates. Mentoring of undergraduate research is typically pursued intensively in the summer, but often continues during the academic year. Most students will present their research in posters or talks at regional or national conferences. Startup funds will be provided.
