- Description
- A postdoctoral researcher position is available in laboratory of Dr. Tania Kim in the Department of Entomology at Kansas State University. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to help with projects related to understanding the movement ecology of harmful and beneficial insects. Understanding how and where insects move across landscapes are critical for pest and disease management and biodiversity conservation, yet few studies explicitly incorporate insect movement due to logical challenges owing to their small size and cryptic feeding behavior. We seek an individual that can think creatively about how to quantify insect movement across landscapes using techniques such mark-recapture, molecular approaches to quantify gene flow or characterize diet breadth, stable isotopes, remotely sensed data, and/or incorporate movement into distribution and population models. The research will primarily focus on insect movement within Kansas landscapes, which are dominated by grasslands and annual crops such as sorghum, wheat, and corn. In addition to agriculture, fire and grazing are important anthropogenic disturbances within this region. Responsibilities: develop and execute research projects related to tracking insect movement across human-modified landscapes, write grants, and report results in peer-reviewed papers. Opportunities to teach and mentor students are available if the researcher wishes to gain teaching/mentoring experience. To apply please send for the following items to Dr. Tania Kim (tkim@ksu.edu) as a single pdf: · Cover letter summarizing your research goals and interests · CV · Copies of university transcripts · Names and contacts information for three references For further inquiries, please contact Dr. Tania Kim at tkim@ksu.edu. For further information about the Kim lab, please visit taniakimecology.com. Dr. Kim will be available to meet with prospective candidates at the Entomological Society of America in St. Louis from Nov. 16-20. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2019 and the position will remain open until a suitable applicant is identified.
