- The Department of Entomology at Louisiana State University seeks independent, highly motivated candidates for a two-year, USDA-funded post-doctoral position. The post-doctoral scientist will work with faculty in the Department and scientists at Southern Insect Management Research Unit (SIMRU), USDA-ARS in Stoneville, MS, to develop research projects on semiochemical-mediated interactions among insect pests, natural enemies, and important crops in Louisiana (corn, soybeans, rice, sweetpotato, and/or cotton), with the goal of developing new approaches for the management of noctuid, hemipteran, and other pests. Potential areas for research include, but are not limited to, semiochemical-based trapping methods, chemical mediation of tritrophic interactions, and plant resistance. Opportunities for training and collaboration with USDA-ARS scientists will be available. Candidates with experience in volatile sampling, pheromone chemistry, analysis of insect behavior, and/or other facets of chemical ecology are particularly desired. - Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. in entomology, biological sciences, or related field. Experience in investigating semiochemical-mediated interactions among insects and crop plant (e.g., identifying and quantifying volatile compounds emitted by plants or insects, characterizing insect behavior, isolating and quantifying natural products from plants) is preferred.
