- Description
- This position is part of the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Workforce Development (WFD) Program. The WFD was established in 2017 to increase the number of qualified scientists in the U.S. in preparation for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). The Department of Entomology at Kansas State University is partnering with ARS to identify changes in feeding behavior in blood-feeding arthropod disease vectors following infection with arboviruses. The encumbent position will use electropenetrogram techniques to develop baseline libraries for mosquito and Culidoides midge blood feeding behavior and compare these with feeding activity following arboviral infection. Differences observed in feeding activity may lead to new hypotheses and methods for disrupting the ability of these vectors to transmit diseases to livestock.
