- Description: A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Entomology at the Penn State University Behrend campus (Erie, PA). This is a 12-month appointment with potential to be extended for an additional year depending on performance and interest. Research: The research involves studying the biology, ecology and genomics of insect pests associated with grapes as well as basic underlying mechanisms of grape resistance to insect herbivores. Additional research topics may include chemical ecology, insect-plant interactions, insect-microbe-plant interactions, insect biological control, pest management, genetic engineering techniques, etc. Additional training opportunities in teaching, extension and undergraduate student mentoring will be available if they are of interest to the successful applicant. - Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Entomology or a closely related discipline, demonstrated publications record, training in molecular biology techniques, insect rearing, plant growth, ability to design experiments, collect data, analyze results and publish findings in peer-review journals with minimum supervision. Experience in bioinformatics is not required but highly desired. Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written, excellent ability to work in a team comprised of graduate and undergraduate students. Disposition to work in laboratory and field conditions.
