- Position Description Under the supervision of the Administrative Supervisor, the seasonal receptionist/clerk provides prompt, efficient, courteous services to the public, by telephone as well as in person. The employee is also responsible for providing administrative support to Managers/staff of the Mosquito & Vector Control Division. Duties and Responsibilities: Receptionist Communicates information to the public about Mosquito & Vector Control services. Answers telephone, transfers calls, and takes messages for staff or relays those messages through voicemail or other appropriate methods. Provides follow-up assistance as required with telephone situations. Assists greeting visitors as they enter the reception area and verifies appointments. Directs visitors to the respective office or asks to wait for an escort to the proper office. Alerts supervisor/appropriate person of problems that may arise in the reception area. Administrative Enters data regarding resident's requests for service. Provides back-up assistance to the staff as needed. Performs Mail processing, photocopying, faxing, and filing as needed. Assists with the pick-up and delivery of the U.S. mail. Assists Admin and makes sure conference room, copy room, mailroom, and other common areas are clean, fully stocked, and well-organized for visitors. Other Works towards understanding and applying the principle of Health Equity and achieve the goals of Harris County Public Health (HCPH). Performs other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.
- Qualifications
- ust take and pass the "Clerical Skills Test" with a minimum typing speed of 30 w.p.m. with 80% accuracy. See General Information tab below for test instructions. High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; and Six (6) months of general office experience. Experience answering numerous multi-line phone systems and ability to transfer to appropriate departments. Must have a good understanding of scientific principles and appreciate the goals of the division and the department. Must have good communication (verbal and written) skills and good telephone etiquette. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
