- Description
- Collier Mosquito Control District is hiring! We’re looking for a research technician/biologist to join our Research Department. Successful candidates will join a passionate, hardworking team dedicated to protecting public health and advancing the science of mosquito control. If you like getting your hands dirty and are excited about performing operational research that has immediate, real-world impacts on your community, this is the opportunity for you. The position: As a research technician or biologist at the District, you’ll assist with research studies to inform and improve District operations, perform a range of mosquito surveillance activities (weekly trapping, larval sampling and collection, mosquito identification, disease testing, insecticide resistance testing, etc.) and assist with other operational and research tasks as necessary. The job will involve a combination of field and laboratory work, with specific tasks varying by season and project. Summer and fall are our busy seasons, when you’ll perform the bulk of your surveillance activities and field studies. During winter and spring, you may have opportunities to attend trainings and research conferences. The majority of your work will occur Monday through Friday from 7:30am-4pm, but occasional nights and weekends may be required. Ideally, you’ll have a BS or MS in biology, entomology or a related field and experience in (and passion for) mosquito research and control. Salary and job title will be based on skills and experience. The District: Collier Mosquito Control District encompasses 401 square miles in beautiful southwest Florida between Everglades National Park and the Gulf of Mexico. The District currently employs approximately 50 people at our primary office location in Naples and a satellite office in Immokalee. We practice integrated mosquito management, so every decision we make is based on scientific analysis of a range of environmental and mosquito surveillance data. District highlights include a network of automated mosquito traps, a fully equipped laboratory with onsite disease testing capabilities, an aerial fleet with both fixed-wing and rotary aircraft, a cutting-edge drone program and a Gambusia fish distribution program. We also offer a variety of benefits including health, dental, vision and life insurance; a choice of retirement plans; nine paid holidays per year and financial support for continuing education. Please submit your resume and cover letter to Dr. Rebecca Heinig (rheinig@cmcd.org). Application materials will be reviewed on a rolling basis until position is filled.
