Description
The Crawley lab specializes in urban and structural pest management. Specifically, our laboratory is interested in improving integrated pest management strategies for urban pests such as bed bugs, cockroaches, mosquitoes, and ants. We are heavily involved in extension, thus, much of our research is highly applied and geared toward meeting the needs of stakeholders such as pest management professionals and the homeowner. This purpose of this position is to support ongoing research efforts in the Crawley laboratory. The individual in this position will be responsible for supporting both the PI as well as graduate students in research endeavors. This may require ordering supplies, designing and building experimental arenas, maintaining insect colonies and the laboratory, as well as conducting research trials on an as-needed basis under the supervision of the PI. At current, this position is listed as time-limited for three (3) years. However, the position has the potential to become permanent if future funding is secured for its continuation.
Qualifications
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Experience working in previous specimen-based laboratories. Experience using software for data entry and summary. Experience building and constructing experimental arenas or similar items. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Entomology, or a related discipline. Certified Pesticide Applicator Preferred, Not Required. Knowledge of insect morphology and rearing. Experience photographing insect specimens. Experience performing pesticide bioassays. Valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire is required
