- The Manatee County Mosquito Control District seeks to hire a non-Supervisory, Senior-level Entomologist to assist in weekly/daily estimation of adult mosquito populations through a series of 57 CDC light traps located within the County. The incumbent will also assist with maintenance/care of the sentinel chickens as part of the District’s arboviral monitoring program. The incumbent serves as the PI on original research used to better the efficiency and delivery of public-health mosquito control services. The incumbent will also be expected to publish and present original research findings at State-, National- and International professional conferences. The incumbent is expected to work largely independently and report to the Entomology Department Manager and District Director Work Environment and Compensation: The Manatee County Mosquito Control District is an energetic and dynamic work environment that was established in 1947 as an independent taxing agency within the County. The District has a $5.5m annual budget and a FT staff of 30. This is a FT, permanent position that offers full family medical insurance, paid holiday, vacation & sick leave, and participation in the Florida Retirement System. This position is not subject to contract, and as such carries the protections afforded any public employee in the State of Florida. Salary is offered at $50-70K annually and COLA/merit raises are typically provided annually (generally 5%). Employees within this classification are considered to be FLSA-exempt and salaried. - Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in Entomology from an accredited university. Preference will be given to those applicants with work experience in the field of entomology and/or mosquito control. Must be proficient in the identification of mosquitoes with preference to those individuals familiar with the mosquitoes of Florida. Ideally the incumbent will have experience with scientific writing, experimental design, data analysis and GIS programs.
