- The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, announces the search for candidates for a tenure track teaching position in ecology and fields related to environmental sciences for teaching and research tasks, in addition to occupying a leadership position in the Luquillo Long-Term Ecological Research Program (LUQ-LTER) beginning August 1, 2021. Responsibilities. Face to face and distance teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level during daytime, Saturdays, or evening hours. Execute a research program that generates publications in academic journals. Supervise theses, dissertations, and professional practices. Develop proposals to generate external research funds. Actively participate in the leadership of LUQ-LTER. Contribute with service to departmental and university committees consistent with the General Regulations of UPR. Deadline for application is April 26, 2021. Individuals interested in Joining the Department and leading the LUQ-LTER team are asked to submit: 1) a letter of interest, 2) a statement of scientific management philosophy (maximum 2 pages), 3) a statement of teaching philosophy (maximum 2 pages), 4) updated curriculum vitae, 5) official academic credentials and evidence of all degrees earned, 6) examples of publications or other scholarly work, 7) student evaluations, and 8) three letters of recommendation to be sent to:
- Qualifications
- Requirements. A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in ecology or related areas with a specialty in aquatic or terrestrial environments, geology, toxicology or environmental meteorology; or groundwater hydrology. We seek an individual with (1) demonstrated excellence in face-to-face and distance university teaching, (2) availability to direct research projects, theses and dissertations, (3) professional experience in preparing proposals and obtaining external funds, (4) a solid academic record of publications and research in tropical environments, (5) experience in project management, and (6) the capability to lead a collaborative, interdisciplinary research team comprising scientists from UPR, USDA Forest Service, and other institutions. Working knowledge of the Spanish language is preferred.
