Description
Job description: Vegetable Farm Production Intern; Assisting farm staff with the day-to-day operation of vegetable production on a small local farm. Duties include but are not limited to; planting, weeding, transplanting, harvesting, sorting and washing vegetables for the CSA. Farm Education Intern; Assisting farm staff with educational curriculum, community field day events and teaching ongoing workshops and hands on field study days for veteran farmer training program and youth leadership programs.
Qualifications
Special/Required skills: Ability to work outdoors. Ability to engage positively with the public. Ability to work efficiently without direct supervision. Manual farm labor and some heavy lifting. Interest in learning the skill of small farm vegetable production. Interest in teaching field day studies program and ability to communicate specific farm related lessons to a group with a diverse level of knowledge of farming. Ability to run small farm machinery. Needed resources: Transportation required. Appropriate clothing and gloves required. Additional Needs/Information: The Farm at Millican Reserve is a small scale chemical free, minimally mechanized vegetable production farm located on a conservation-based development in South College Station. Our farm is part of a larger community project that includes education programs for children and adults (veterans) and the operation of a CSA program. We are active 12 months out of the year and participate in a variety of different hands-on farming practices. This is a great learning opportunity for someone interested in small scale farming, education and community development.
