- Position: Assistant Extension Professor of Entomology, Urban Entomology, twelve-month, tenure-track appointment, extension (55%), research (40%), service (5%). Description: The Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky is seeking a broadly trained entomologist who will address the impact of a wide range of insect pests that affect humans in homes, schools, businesses, and/or institutions. This position is located in the Entomology Department on the University of Kentucky Campus, Lexington, KY. Areas of extension and research emphasis could include any topic with obvious connection to a goal of mitigating the impacts of structure-infesting pests (e.g., cockroaches, ants, termites, bed bugs, etc.) on humans. Responsibilities include development and implementation of educational/outreach programs to support county-based extension personnel, households, businesses, municipalities, and the professional pest management industry, applied research to provide evidence-based insect management recommendations to stakeholders, and participation in multi-disciplinary and/or inter-institutional teams. The individual is expected to work closely with the Kentucky Pest Management Association and state regulatory officials to ensure that information on safe and efficacious methods of pest management are available. - The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Entomology or related discipline with demonstrated experience with insects affecting humans in homes, schools, businesses or institutions; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to use social media to reach diverse audiences; and experience with extension and outreach.
