Description
Reporting to the department chair, the visiting instructor of Biology will mostly teach introductory biology and microbiology courses. At Georgia Southern, visiting faculty teach fifteen contact hours per semester, hold regular office hours, and actively participate in departmental meetings. Collegiality is essential. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments. There is the possibility of reappointment based on funding availability and satisfactory performance. The second year would be a terminal year, without exception. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: 1. Earned Master’s Degree by August 1, 2021 in Biology, or a closely related discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Biology 2. Effective communication and interpersonal skills 3. Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives 4. Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development 5. Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution Preferred Qualifications: 1. Earned doctoral degree by August 1, 2021 in Biology, or a closely related discipline 2. Experience preparing and teaching non-majors introductory biology courses 3. Experience preparing and teaching majors introductory biology courses 4. Experience preparing and teaching microbiology for the allied health sciences 5. Experience preparing and teaching online courses
