- The Department of Entomology at Michigan State University seeks candidates for a tenure-system position (12 month appointment) in Tree Fruit Entomology at the Assistant Professor rank. The position will focus on developing management programs for arthropod pests of tree fruits (apples, cherries, etc.) of economic importance in the Great Lakes region. Alternatives to conventional insecticides such as novel chemistries, biological control, mating disruption, cultural control, and introducing resistant varieties should be emphasized. Responsibilities: This position/assignment includes research (45%), extension (45%), and teaching (10%), and the position will be expected to develop an internationally recognized program; secure substantial competitive external funding; publish in peer-reviewed journals; develop Extension educational materials; and recruit and mentor graduate students to graduation. This position will be expected to implement IPM systems and control strategies to mitigate the impacts of domestic and invasive arthropod pests while working with growers, Extension educators, private industry, and other stakeholders related to the tree fruit industry. In addition, the successful candidate will develop and teach an annual seminar course of their choosing. A collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to research and extension efforts is preferred. Expectations also include active department and university service, and professional service and outreach.
- Qualifications
- Required Degree Doctorate -Entomology, Ecology, or related discipline Minimum Requirements Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Entomology, Ecology, or related discipline; demonstrated training and expertise in integrated pest management, applied ecology, chemical ecology, or other disciplines that have application in managing tree fruit pests or other arthropods of economic importance. We also expect applicants to have a record of scholarly activities in their field as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and clear evidence of research funding. Desired Qualifications Postdoctoral experience with demonstrated expertise in integrating multidisciplinary areas of tree fruit entomology and a record of funding from competitive state, national and/or international agencies.
