Description
The CDC Foundation seeks a candidate for a full-time entomologist or biologist for a Junior Research Scientist position to manage the daily operations related to transgenic mosquito strain maintenance for the Target Malaria Research Consortium at the CDC insectaries. This position is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week. The successful candidate will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Roybal campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The position will be located in the Center for Global Health (CGH), Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria, Entomology Branch. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health. The CDC Foundation offers a competitive salary and attractive benefits package. Although this is a CDC Foundation field employee position, this employee will work directly with CDC staff and will be placed at a CDC location. RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise and advise technical staff in transgenic mosquito strain maintenance Design and execute experiments recommended for the CDC team by the Target Malaria Regulatory group Oversee the smooth consistent operation of the Target Malaria insectaries at CDC Oversee data compilation, archiving, reporting and analysis Participate in the Insectary Working Group calls and in calls/discussions for which the individual has relevant input Conduct training as needed Some domestic and foreign travel may be required
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated ability to design experiments Understanding of statistical analysis Ability to supervise technical staff Previous experience working with insects or mosquitoes desirable Working knowledge of molecular techniques including DNA sequencing and PCR Knowledge of cloning in plasmid vectors desirable PhD in biology, genetics, entomology or other relevant discipline Availability in September 2018
